Lotus Type 66

The Lotus Type 66 was designed in the late '60s, with a view to competing in the Can-Am race series. The designs were finished but the car wasn't built and the plans were thought to have been lost. More than 50 years later those plans were found and Lotus decided it would bring the car to life. The 5.8-litre V8 at its heart produces 830bhp and 550lb/ft, hooked up to a 6-speed sequential gearbox, which is enough to propel the car to 180mph. The chassis consists of carbon fibre and aluminium and the aero produces 800kg of downforce at 150mph in a car which weighs around 950kgs. Lotus is making 10 examples of the Type 66 with each costing more than £1m.
